The Crab Bucket

We've heard how some people emulate crabs which, when any of their colleagues (yes, crabs have colleagues!) try to escape a bucket, will pull them back down.

And it's easy to spot the direct manner in which this is done:

"If that was a good idea, someone would have already done it."
"You're never worked in that area before."
"The timing is terrible."
"Nobody will buy that."

But what about the indirect manner? Some examples:

"I've got some new projects for you."
"Ed's been assigned to your team."
"Let's get a committee going to study that."
"Fine. Just make sure you have the time and money."
