Parental Wisdom

Cultural Offering's post about phrases that are ineffective with children sparks memories of what our parents said to us.

Some cherished lines I heard as a child:

  • "I don't want to hear any alibis."

  • "Do what?"

  • "You're a day late and a dollar short."

  • "Don't be one of those guys who's just trying to get on the gravy train."

  • "You send them away to school and they come back dumber than when they left."
