2010 Top Workplace Pet Peeves

ATLANTA, May 5, 2010 – Employees would rather deal with gossiping co-workers than with colleagues who have poor time management skills, according to Randstad, a leading staffing firm and workforce solutions provider. The company’s new Work Watch survey, conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs among more than 1,000 employed U.S. adults, revealed the top three workplace pet peeves to be: people with poor time management skills (43 percent), gossip (36 percent) and messiness in communal spaces (25 percent).

My #1 pet peeve: Co-workers who do not return messages. Absolutely no excuse for this. If I send you an email requesting a response or a resourse, I do not want to have to keep track of what I sent you and if you've responded to it and when you might. If you cannot get to it now or ever, just say so.

Not returning messages requires me to keep track of not only my own work load, but yours as well.

Absolutely irritating, especially when it is a habit.

Most of us understand a "Swamped right now but will get back with you" response. At least we know we're in the pipeline.
