Powerful stuff, that.
And like you, I love contemplating big ideas and trends. They don't get much bigger than the development and histories of civilization, do they?

Had I listened to this a few weeks before I would have been even more deeply impressed, but I'm just starting 1493, Uncovering the New World Columbus Created by Charles C. Mann. There is no way to summarize in a comment, but here is the interview that inspired me to do something I only do once or twice a year -- I bought the book.
