Precision of speech, on the other hand, is more generally accepted. If what he really meant was "an amendment to a foreign constitution does not trump Canadian laws and customs", he might even have been right. In Ottawa. Or London. (Though, obviously, we have only a residual fraternal interest in Canadian laws and customs. Especially French Canadian.)
