Job Tips and Attitude

Liz Wolgemuth gives some ideas on how to get a job after being a year or more out of work.

I recall nearing a year of being unemployed at one point in my career and the economy was much better then than now. It was not very enjoyable when employers said they knew I wouldn't be happy at their place because I was overqualified. [That didn't pay the rent.] The overall experience also left a powerful memory of how often job-seekers are poorly treated by employers.

The most frustrating thing is when job-seekers have followed all of the tips and still don't strike paydirt. That can happen. And that point is when it may be most tempting to dismiss all of the advice about maintaining a good attitude and not blaming yourself, but that is the precise moment when such advice is of greatest value.
