It's so easy in the midst of emphasizing efficiency, achieving results, preventing criticism, protecting the vulnerable (and not-so-vulnerable), promoting a cause, upholding standards, reaching goals, encouraging cooperation, following logic, celebrating diversity, honoring excellence, avoiding gridlock, and fostering unity. . . to forget about freedom.
Freedom can be chaotic, frustrating, time-consuming, inefficient, and sloppy but if it is forgotten long enough we'll awaken to a world which is not pleasant at all and where all of the other concerns seem very small indeed.
