Marching Through Georgia

Writing in The Wall Street Journal, David Mermelstein reviews the greatness - and the flaws - of the film "Gone With The Wind."

The story itself is a chilling tale of a dangerous psychotic. "Will Rhett return to Scarlett?" Good Lord, I hope not.

Which psychotic are you speaking of, Rhett, or Scarlett? Both guilty of murder (in the book). Both completely contemptuous of weakness. Both manipulative. Both totally self-serving. Both deceitful. They deserved each other.

Dan,

I think Rhett was a Boy Scout compared to Scarlett.

Michael, this leads to the question, what the heck did he see in her anyway? Spirit is the only reason he gives, but can't he find a spirited gal who isn't also totally evil?

Dan,

I've wondered about that because he certainly knew a lot of women. Scarlett was a dangerous loon.
