Manager A will carefully review all documents that have been prepared for signature by staff. "Happy" will be changed to "glad" and every nuance will be weighed before a signature is attached.
Manager B will glance over the documents and, unless something significant jumps out, will sign because he relies upon the staff having considered the details.
Each style has pros and cons. Which one most resembles yours?

Manager A will not be managing to get much done in the long term. As one bowling guru said: trust is a must or you game is a bust.
Depends on the subordinate ...
David has it right.
If the subordinate won't change so that you can be manager B, then they must go. I don't have time to do both jobs. Manager A is a training mode not a full time way to run the ship.
I'm usually critical of my own voice not of others. As Michael says, pros and cons to both. Being overly OCD over every word is stifling to the staff if not the process. Taking a laissez faire attitude can be dangerous.
Words carry meaning - subtle changes can make a difference. Know your audience. Use the editorial scalpel sparingly.
