Defense Techniques

Go through enough disputes and you'll find these classic defense techniques:

  • I didn't do it.

  • Even if I did it, there are others who've done worse.

  • I was forced to do it.

  • I am a scapegoat for the failings of the system.

  • I did it but I am being singled out because of prejudice.

  • I might have done it but the standards were unclear.

  • I did it by mistake.

  • I only did part of it.

  • I did it but didn't know I did it.

  • The investigation did not establish that I did it.

  • The investigator was biased.

  • I did it but the punishment is too severe.

  • "It" is not a violation of any rule.

  • Everyone does it.

  • If I didn't do it, someone else would have.

  • This is being taken out of context.

  • I should have done it.

  • It's not a big deal.

  • I should be commended for doing it!
