Interruptions

Some interruptions are necessary; e.g., "The building is on fire."

Most, however, are not and the reason why they are interruptions is they are unscheduled. If time is set aside for unexpected meetings, what would have been an interruption can be funneled into that time period.

The question of "Got a minute?" can be answered with "I'll be able to give ten minutes at 11:00 or at 4:00. Which will work for you?"

[Note the timing. Place the "scheduled unscheduleds" close to lunch or the end of the work day and people will be more inclined to get to the point.]

And no, if the building really is on fire, they won't postpone telling you.
