Chores

The afternoon was dedicated to chores; the alchemists of life that turn the unimportant into the urgent.

We try to sweeten these nuisances by combining them with something pleasurable. Despite such craftiness, there is no doubt that the niggling demands are often an irritant. We pretend that they distract from our usual routine of writing best-selling novels and inventing cures for cancer.

My own practice is to embrace the individual components and try to appreciate them. If that is not possible, I zone out entirely, listen to the rocks grow, and tell myself that no job is ever minor.

It seems to work.

Chore: That which must be done, but isn't too much fun....

Bob,

Good description. It could also be anything I'd rather not be doing now.
