Prospecting Yourself

Businesses are often advised to see which additional services or products can be sold to current customers instead of burning up money and energy trying to find new ones. A variation of that advice can be applied to your resources.

Which of your current strengths can be used to a greater degree? Are there some skills or products that were employed in other arenas that can be modified and used today? Go back ten years. Review all of those projects that were successful "once upon a time" and look for hidden treasure.

You may be surprised at what emerges.

I am continually amazed at how many of my old "secretary" skills and "fast food" skills are still valuable now that I have worked my way up the career food chain. I like the fact that I can unjam a copy machine in 2 minutes, instead of having to wait 2 days for a technician to come & fix it. Basic things, like treat every customer with courtesy & respect (whether or not they are a "big account") are huge, HUGE things to remember. Little customers always have the potential to become big ones, and when they do, they will remember the companies/people who treated them well along the way.

CincyCat,

I'm often thankful for skills that I once thought were minor. You are right on target regarding the treatment of people.
